Nestled at a height of 700 meters above the sea level, Lakkidi View Point is one of the highest points in the district of Wayanad in Gods own Country Kerala placed at a distance of about 16 km from Kalpetta (district headquarters). This view point remains as one of the greenest and wettest places in India enriched with incomparable scenic vistas all over which gives it a totally different look.
The view point is renowned for a captivating view of dusk and dawn along with being a spot from where one can watch the sloshing brooks, verdant vegetation and the haughty mountain peaks. On a clear sunny day, one can get a clearer view of the both sunrise and sunset over the emerald carpeted mountains which make this viewpoint exotic when compared with others. Visitors can also relish bird watching as this place is home to many common as well as couple of rare avian faunas. While in the view point, you can relish a bird’s eye view of the Deep south Valley and the stunning winding roads.
The venture to Lakkidi itself is a pleasure and a treat to visitor’s soul as the drivers has to face nine hairpin bends on the way from Adivaram to Lakkidi. As soon as you reach the view point you will be greeted with emerald and luscious environ which are sure to freshen you up. Often referred to as the ‘Gateway of Wayanad’, the in and around areas of Lakkidi boasts of several tourist places. Some of them are the renowned Pookot Lake (approx 3 km) and the Chain Tree where visitors can advent to have some fun and entertainment time in the lap of Mother Nature.
Note: It is suggested to make a visit to this place on a sunny day as the haze may ruin your view.
Best time to Visit: An ideal time to visit this beautiful view point is from the month of October to March as you could get a clear vision of the surrounding areas during this time of the year when the sun shines at its brightest.
Accommodation: As Kalpetta is the district headquarters of the emerald district of Wayanad, large number of hotels and resorts ranging from budget to luxury are present in and around the city. Some of the hotels located in close proximity to this view point are Annapara Homestay (about 5 km), Blue Ginger resorts (about 5.5 km), The Windflower resorts and spa (about 9 km), and Coffea Aroma resorts (about 11 km).
How to Reach:
Nearest Airport: Calicut International Airport at about 100 km from Kalpetta is the nearest airport. It is one of the major airports in South India connected by regular flights to Indian cities as well as foreign countries.
Nearest Rail Head: Kozhikode (Calicut) is the nearest railhead at about 42 km from Kalpetta as Kalpetta doesn’t have a train station. Trains from Major Indian cities ply regularly to this train station.
By Road: One can hire or get on a bus to reach Kalpetta, from Kalpetta you can opt to rent a vehicle to reach the view point. The drive to is quite thrilling and yet exciting owing to the hairpin curves in the snake like roads which leads to this view point.
