Lokanarkavu Temple
Lokanarkavu is located in the Calicut district of ‘gods own country’ Kerala. The name is derived from ‘Lokamalayarkavu’ which means lokam (world), made of mala (mountain), aaru (river), and kavu (grove). Thus meaning a world made up of mountain, river and groves. It is one of the irremovable strings in the daring and classic history of Kerala which was once home for the legendary heroes of Northern serenade like: Thacholi Meppayil Kunjhu Othenan, Thacholi Ambu, Unniyarcha and many others.

The temple has a great historical significance as the legendary martial hero Thacholi Othenan used to pay his regards here every day. It is the bona fide temple of the 500 Aryans who had migrated to Kerala and their followers. The temple is dated as 1500 years old and is popular for its ancient traditional wooden carved architecture. There are several festivals conducted in the temple of which Pooram is celebrated with great joy and glory. Poorakkali is another festival in which folk dance is presented which resembles the martial art of Kalarippayattu. Another festival is Mandala Utsavam which is a 41 days long event in which Thacholikali a special and peculiar dance is performed. Other prime attraction nearby includes of: Muthappan Mala is a pilgrimage center; Hindu deity ‘Muthappan’ is believed to be residing in this center and one can also enjoy a panoramic view of Vedakara city from this place. Payam Kutti is also a magnetism for travelers alike Muthappan Mala.
