Gavi Eco Tourism

Gavi is widely known tourist destination in India and it widely become popular after the “Alistair 
International”, acclaimed Gavi as a leading eco-tourism centre and the MustVisit Place in Keralam once in a lifetime. The place is renowned for its eco-tourism and it is also home to various endangered species including the Nilgari Tahr and Lion-Tailed Macaque. If you are love water and keen enthusiasts of bird watchers, this is the place in Kerala; you should not miss to visit. The natural carpet and the virgin greenery of Gavi, is home to around 260 species of birds including the great pied hornbill, Kingfisher and Woodpecker.

Gavi is no doubt a nature lover’s pradise. Here visitors can enjoy the lovely and appealing beauty of nature, colorful birds, various species of animals and the emerald green natural covers that are untouched by the modernity. It is a perfect place for nature view, bird watching and jeep safari. One can enjoy the beauty of the pristine natural beauty and experience the marvelous appeal which is located far in the corner of the world. Here tourists can also enjoy trekking, outdoor camping in specially built tents and night safaris and wildlife view from the tree top houses.
Initiative by Kerala Forest Development Corporation
Kerala Forest Development Corporation has played an important role to promote Gavi Tourism not only among national tourist but among international tourists as well. Most of the visitors here are International tourists and millions of credit should go the locals and the Gavi Tribals, who have been actively taking part to bring awareness among tourists on about the conservation of nature. KFDC sponsored to develop Gavi tourism and since then it has got positive response, visit tourists visiting from all over the world.
Renowned Gavi an eco-tourism destination is located 40 kms from Kumily and is a beautiful village that acts as the border region of Idduki and Pathanamthitta district. Spread delightfully across the Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary, the Gavi is located 3400 ft above Sea level.
Weather Condition
Gavi has moderate weather conditions among the Seasonal Variations in the land of Kathakali. Summer starts from February and last till April and the temperature during this period is 28 degree centigrade in the day time while the night temperature falls down to 20 degree Centigrade.
Monsoon here starts from June and last till August and during this time the temperature is 25 degrees centigrade while the night temperature falls down to 10 degree centrigrade.
How to Reach
Gavi is located 28 kms from Vandiperiyar but for entry here or to visit one has to obtain pass from the Forest Development Corporation Ltd. You can also get the pass Forest Check Post enroute at Vallakkadavu.
By Air: Air is the most convenient means of transportation, quick and easier to reach any particular place. Nearest airport is Cochin International Airport which is located at a distance of 200 kms and Madurai airport at a distance of 195 kms.
By Rail: The nearest railhead to Gavi is Kottayam which is located at a distance of 120 kms and is well connected with Thiruvananthapuram and Gavi.
By Road: Reaching Gavi is much easier as Vendiperiyar is well connected with Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram. Once reach to Vendiperiyar one can hire jeep or local taxi to reach this exquisite world renowned eco-tourism destination.

The sheer beauty of this place is indeed worth a closer look ! Here is nature at its unadulterated best. Gavi often serves the Special Things in Kerala like a base camp for deep jungle trekkers, birdwatchers, nature lovers, research students and the like.

June - september - Season of Monsoon
September - February - Chilling weather
March - May end - Hot weather

Other than the monsoon season climate at Gavi is always cool and calm
